Im Rahmen der 6. Ausschreibung von «First Ventures», dem Förderprogramm der Gebert Rüf Stiftung für unternehmerische Fachhochschul-Studierende, stellt die ZHAW zwei der fünf Siegerprojekte. Patricia Frei und Lynn Huber, Absolventinnen des BSc Hebamme am Departement Gesundheit, wurden für ihr E-Learning-Tool «Midwife Refugee Kit» ausgezeichnet. Bercan Siyahhan, Master-Absolvent der School of Engineering, überzeugte die Jury mit seinem Projekt «CoatSim».

Das Förderprogramm FIRST VENTURES richtet sich gemäss der Gebert Rüf Stiftung an «unternehmerische Fachhochschulstudierende, die ihre Innovationsprojekte unmittelbar nach Diplomabschluss weiterverfolgen wollen.» Dafür stellt sie pro Projekt bis zu CHF 150’000 sowie ein individuell abgestimmtes Coaching-Programm zur Verfügung. Nachdem bereits bei der fünften Ausschreibung zwei der drei Siegerprojekte aus der ZHAW kamen (mehr dazu hier), wurden nun im Rahmen des sechsten Calls erneut zwei ZHAW-Projekte prämiert: Patricia Frei und Lynn Huber, Absolventinnen des BSc Hebamme am Departement Gesundheit, wurden für ihr E-Learning-Tool «Midwife Refugee Kit» ausgezeichnet. Bercan Siyahhan, Master-Absolvent der School of Engineering, überzeugte die Jury mit seinem Projekt  «CoatSim».

Patricia Frei und Lynn Huber entwickelten mit ihrem E-Learning-Tool «Midwife Refugee Kit» ein umfassendes Training für Hebammen, welche die besonders vulnerable Klientinnengruppe der asylsuchenden Frauen und ihrer Familien betreuen. Es beinhaltet neben wissenschaftlich fundierter Theorie und Lerneinheiten samt Self-Check-Fragebogen auch Filme und spielerische Elemente für abwechslungsreiches, interaktives Lernen. Dazu haben sie Onedu.org gegründet, eine Online-Bildungsplattform «zur Ermächtigung von Menschen». Das E-Learning-Tool für Hebammen ist der erste Kurs, der auf der Plattform verfügbar sein wird.

Bercan Siyahhans Projekt hingegen adressiert die Pulverbeschichtungs- und Verzinkungsindustrie: Er hat eine Simulationssoftware weiterentwickelt, um jeden Beschichtungsprozess eins zu eins in Form eines digitalen Zwillings abbilden zu können – noch bevor er in der Anlage erfolgt ist. Mit «CoatSim» lässt sich also die optimale Beschichtung vorgängig am digitalen Zwilling ermitteln. Damit auch das möglichst effizient passiert, ist er an einen Optimierungsalgorithmus in der Cloud gekoppelt.

ZHAW again succeeds in First Ventures support programme

Two of the five winning projects in the sixth and latest First Ventures call for proposals, the support programme from the Gebert Rüf Foundation for entrepreneurial students at universities of applied sciences, hail from the ZHAW. Patricia Frei and Lynn Huber, graduates of the BSc in Midwifery at the School of Health Professions, won for their e-learning tool called Midwife Refugee Kit, and Bercan Siyahhan, who has a Master’s degree from the School of Engineering, impressed the jury with his CoatSim project.

According to the Gebert Rüf Foundation, the First Ventures support programme is aimed at entrepreneurial students at universities of applied sciences who want to pursue their innovative projects immediately after graduation. Successful projects receive up to CHF 150,000 per project as well as an individually tailored coaching programme. Now, two more ZHAW projects have come out on top in the sixth and latest call: Patricia Frei and Lynn Huber, graduates of the BSc in Midwifery at the School of Health Professions, won for their e-learning tool called Midwifery Refugee Kit, and Bercan Siyahhan, who has a Master’s degree from the School of Engineering, impressed the jury with his CoatSim project.

With their Midwife Refugee Kit, Patricia Frei and Lynn Huber have created a comprehensive e-learning training tool for midwives caring for female refugees and their families, who are a particularly vulnerable client group. In addition to scientific theory, learning units and a self-check questionnaire, the kit also includes films and playful elements to encourage diverse and interactive learning. The two graduates also founded Onedu.org, an online platform that seeks to empower people through education. The e-learning tool for midwives will be the first course published on the platform.

Bercan Siyahhan’s project is aimed at the powder coating and galvanising industry. He took a simulation software and developed it so that it can map every coating process one-to-one to create a digital twin – before the coating process has even begun. His CoatSim project makes it possible to determine the optimal coating on the digital twin in advance, and it is coupled with a cloud-based optimisation algorithm to make it as efficient as possible.
