Background on the Korean-Swiss Science and Technology Cooperation:

The Korean-Swiss Science and Technology Cooperation is one of 8 bilateral programmes established after the definition of priority countries for bilateral science cooperation by the Swiss State in their “message for the promotion of education, research and innovation 2008–2011”. ETH Zurich has been given a mandate by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER) to act as a coordinator for this programme and ensure that the programme will be open to all Swiss universities and universities of applied sciences.

In South Korea, the programme is coordinated by the National Research Foundation (NRF) for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST).

MEST and SER support the programme with equal contributions. The programme is aimed at fostering the scientific and cultural exchange between researchers of the two countries and will thus support cooperative projects. While the first two years of the programme were focused on providing seed funding for academic visits and exchanges of faculty, scientific staff or students, and for the organisation of joint meetings or conferences, the programme has shifted to funding research projects with slightly larger amounts of money in its third year in 2011. The programme is open to several fields of science and technology.
