The Commission is launching a call for expression of interest targeting researchers of all ages, nationalities and disciplines residing in Europe. The aim is to select 20 excellent candidates, full of insight and constructive ideas for:
- Defining researchers’ role and contribution to global societal challenges such as climate change, sustainable energy, poverty…;
- Improving the career prospects and working conditions of researchers in Europe (funding, mobility, career structures, social security…);
- Strengthening the social prestige and recognition of researchers as professionals, highlighting the central role of research and researchers in society and in the generation of growth and jobs;
- Developing new, interactive communication channels between researchers and the Commission – in order to have a tangible impact on policy-making – and between European researchers themselves.
The Commission has already taken a series of initiatives to strengthen the research profession in Europe, by regularly involving well-known European-level stakeholder institutions and individual experts in its work, but currently has no channels to directly consult, listen to and interact with researchers themselves on a systematic basis. The Commission therefore wants to bring researchers from all across Europe to the heart of the policy-making process.
