This Email is to inform you about developments in the Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) Joint Programme.
1. Participation of Switzerland in the Programme AAL:
On 20th October 2010 the Swiss Federal Council approved the participation of Switzerland in the R&D Programme “Ambient Assisted Living“ (AAL). The objective of AAL is to enhance the quality of life of older people and strengthen the industrial base in Europe through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The programme runs from 2008 until 2013 with a total budget of 700 million Euro.
Project partners from Switzerland have already taken part in previous calls for proposals during a pilot phase. As of 2011, all successful project proposers from Switzerland (research institutions, companies and end-user organisations) will profit from co-financing by the EU (FP7) and the federal government.
2. New funding rules for Swiss project partners from 2011 on:
50% of the project costs of universities, universities of applied science, SMEs and end-user organisations will be funded by the Federal Government and the EU:
The funding quota for large companies will be 25%:
Furthermore, the organisations will be able to go into projects on their own (no 50% / 50% balance between industry partner and research body needed anymore).
The new funding rules are subject to confirmation in late 2010 and will be valid for all projects launched under call 4 of the AAL Joint Programme.
For more information please check the updated factsheet on our website
