Around 3000 new research projects secured financial support from the Swiss National Science Foundation in 2017. Each grant application had to undergo a stringent evaluation process in which it was rated relative to competing projects. By fostering competition, the SNSF helps to raise the quality of Swiss research and to maintain its leading position in the global arena.
