Titel der Ausstellung:
Innovation for Better Lives
International R&D cooperation at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences. An exhibit
At the beginning
Innovation is an omnipresent buzzword when the future of society, economy and technology is under discussion. Featuring eleven R&D projects, the exhibit shows how international collaborations contribute to innovations which make a difference in our lives.
Innovation made in Switzerland
Switzerland occupies the first place of the Global Innovation Index (2012). Thereby the small country in the heart of Europe underscores its role as member of the European education and research area. The old continent needs innovations in form of new ideas, products, processes, services and its combination to cope with the current changes in society, economy and technology. Our world is characterised by rising disparities, tensions and insecurities. Conventional recipes are not enough to solve these challenges.
The excellent quality of Switzerland’s universities and the attractiveness of its location for foreign researchers and organizations are two of the success factors of its innovation ecosystem. The international connection of Swiss universities and their staff is highly developed.
Applied Research and Development
A significant part of the innovation goes back to applied research and development (R&D). The idea is to use scientific knowledge and methods for concrete applications. Institutions such as the Zurich University of Applied Sciences are specialised in this form of research and create innovation linkages by cooperating with application partners from the private, public, and nonprofit sector.
International Orientation
In times of globalisation applied R&D has also undergone substantial changes. The image of the lonely inventor was replaced by connected knowledge workers who cooperate across national and disciplinary borders. The goal is always to obtain innovative solutions for challenges in all relevant areas of life. Illustrated by the examples of climate change, nutrition, health, education, integration, mobility, and security the exhibition provides insights into modern practices of cross-border R&D collaboration. What do such practices look like? What is needed for success? The exhibition focuses on the competences, rules and values of effective cooperations in order to show how added value is created.
