Last evening we organised the 13th OpenStack user group meetup at ZHAW premises in Winterthur. The meetup was also a celebratory event to mark the 6th b’day of OpenStack and the OpenStack foundation supported the event by sponsoring it. I thank the OpenStack foundation on behalf of the Swiss OpenStack community.
Last week on 16th June, we held our 5th Open Cloud Day. It took place this year at our campus (ZHAW Winterthur). We co-located another event of ours with the Open Cloud Day, the SDN Workshop.
Open Cloud Day is a joint activity, organised annually by ch/open/ and our research group, Service Engineering. The SDN workshop, a biannual event, focussing on the Software Defined Networking topic in cloud computing, is a joint activity between SWITCH and us.
The one day event hosted about 130 people, ran in 3 separate tracks; main, SDN and workshops, and covered a vast area of cloud topics. PaaS undeniably was the most discussed topic where some speakers took a provocative stance and others towards a positive and “game-changer” aptitude. Continue reading
Last evening we organised the 7th Docker user group meetup in Bern. The kind folks from Die Mobiliar hosted and sponsored the event. There was incredible participation for this meetup and about 160 people joined in.
There were 3 talks held in the meetup, Die Mobiliar and SBB shared their experiences about using Docker in production. The third presentation was from Swisscom, who talked about using Docker in Cloud Foundry. The speaker took the opportunity to release the Docker support feature for the Swisscom Application Cloud. The slides are in line, in the respective names. Continue reading
I’m happy to say that this year has started with a lot of energy in terms of tech events in Switzerland. January was a little quiet, with people slowly recovering from the Christmas and New Years festivities. But come February, Zurich was a very busy location with several meetups happening every week.
We also took this opportunity to get back into organising our meetups. Last week, on 17th of February we organised the 6th Docker Switzerland User Group’s meetup. The meetup was held in the premises of DeinDeal, a Swiss online shopping platform and coupons offering company, in Zurich. The meetup turned out to be quite good. More than 70 people turned up at DeinDeal’s office. There were 3 talks in total held and all of them delighted the participants with a demo about their coolness in using Docker. Continue reading

We have seen tremendous interest and enthusiasm about this event from Swiss industries. We again welcome our friends from the industry and academia to join us at this event. Continue reading
Last night we organised the 5th Docker Switzerland user group meetup in Zürich. The event was co-located with the 7th CloudFoundry DACH user group meetup as well. We were overwhelmed to see the participation, the meetup page showed about a 100 people registered for the event, but about 75 showed up. Still it was a packed room at the ZHAW Lagerstrasse building in Zürich. Continue reading
