Wanted: Researcher / Software Developer for Cloud Rating-Charging-Billing Systems

Job description

The Service Engineering (SE, blog.zhaw.ch/icclab) group at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) / Institute of Applied Information Technology (InIT) in Switzerland is seeking applications for a full-time position at its Winterthur facility.

The successful candidate will work in the InIT Cloud Computing Lab (ICCLab) and will contribute to the research initiative on advanced rating-charging-billing (rcb) systems for clouds.

Comprehensive responsibility is provided with respect to contributing to the cloud rcb research agenda and the respective team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the academic, industry, and technology landscape, identify unsolved problems and propose novel ideas for future activities. Particular emphasis is given to developing prototypes, operation of novel systems and architectures, and assessing their performance. The position will also involve publishing, for example by writing publications, contributing to standards, presenting at developer meetups, etc.

Particular knowledge in the following areas is appreciated:

  • Various popular IaaS & PaaS platforms – OpenStack, CloudStack, CloudFoundry, etc.
  • RESTful application development
  • Web frameworks – AngularJS, Django etc.
  • Proficiency in Java and / or Python
  • Messaging systems – RabbitMQ, Zeromq, etc.
  • Experience working with DB systems: influxdb, mysql, etc.

The candidate will have the opportunity to establish partnerships with industrial partners, acquire funding for collaborative research, and to devise and transfer research solutions to enterprise contexts.

General Candidate Profile

Applicants must have a Master / Bachelor degree in Computer Science and 2-3 years of professional experience. Knowledge of English is a prerequisite, German a plus but not required. A healthy research curiosity combined with very good software development skills and an interest in novel technologies is expected, as is a demonstrated ability to work in an R&D context.

A level of ambition and a willingness to take ownership and responsibility is very well considered. We expect the candidate to be an internationally oriented, enthusiastic researcher who enjoys working in teams with a healthy mix of scientific and applied ambition.
