The FP7 GEYSER Kick off meeting

Seán attended the kick off meeting for the GEYSER project in Rome from Nov 28-29 on behalf of ZHAW.

GEYSER is an exciting new project focused on improving energy efficiency across networks of Data Centres. It’s a 3 year project with a strong group of partners. Led by Engineering, the project team includes ABB, Wattics, Singular Logic, Green IT Amsterdam, SARARWTH/E.on Energy Research CentreTechnical University of Cluj-Napoca and ZHAW.

As usual, the kick-off meeting involved reviewing the original project plan and taking steps to map this plan to the more concrete project realization. There was a good dynamic between the project partners and everyone is excited about developing technology and solutions which have the potential to significantly impact this area. The project combines innovation in DC demand management, energy supply and co-ordination between demand and supply with the objective of significantly increasing energy efficiency across the network of DCs.

As well, as the good co-ordination between the partners, there were quite a few interesting synergies between the project partners and it seems that the consortium will give rise to co-operation, knowledge exchange and perhaps joint work which is somewhat beyond the scope of the GEYSER project.

All in all, it was a good kick off meeting and we’re looking forward to making a good contribution to a high impact project in this space.
