METPEX – measuring the quality of passenger experience

INE is a partner in the EU-Project METPEX, which started in November 2012 and lasts three years. The project is conducted in cooperation with 16 institutions, organisations and companies from 11 European countries.  The main goal of the METPEX project is to develop a measurement tool to determine the quality of a door-to-door passenger experience. The figure below shows the project’s structure and distribution of work.

INE coordinates the work package 6, which assesses socio-economic and land use aspects that are associated with accessibility. Accessibility is a crucial issue for the quality of a transport system, since it can increase the attractiveness as well as the positive experience associated with a mobility option.

The work package 6 comprises three tasks.

  • The first task is about the identification of links between socio-economic development and accessibility issues (now in progress)
  • The second task focus on the classification of land use types, which are influencing accessibility and mobility behaviour.
  • Finally the third task will suggest strategies based on the previous findings and innovative technologies.
