Bicycle, car and public transport card ownership by age group

Analysing the connection between demographic and mobility issues for the METPEX project, INE has studied, among other aspects, the access to car, bicycle and public transport card of different age groups in Switzerland.

As the figure below reveals, car and bicycle ownership decrease while age increases, though the difference by age group is more remarkable in the case of bicycles. The highest share of annual national public transport card ownership (also called General Abonnement) is reported between 18 and 24 years old (probably due to the reduced fee for this age group) and the highest half-fare public transport card ownership is reported within the age group 65-79 years old.
