Innovative technologies help creating a more efficient and accessible transport system. Transport related technologies, as seen in the graphic below, include ICT solutions, vehicle and engine technologies, material technologies as well as traffic safety technologies. Technological development is also an essential part of European research projects. INE is a partner in the EU-projects OPTIMISM, METPEX and RACE2050. OPTIMISM focuses on such ICT solutions as e-ticketing and dynamic routing, but also considers engine, material and safety technologies as relevant for the future. Information technologies were further analysed in the METPEX project. RACE2050 on the other hand is concentrating on the competitiveness of the European transport sector and how to strengthen it with the help of innovative technologies. The figure below summarises relevant technology fields identified in these projects.
