By participating in the METRIC project, INE has examined the economic clusters of the EU. The clusters were evaluated by size, number of employees and economic influence. The highest rating is three stars. The focus is in the transportation industry, with the data from the European Cluster Observatory.
Having a look at the map it can be seen that the distribution of the aviation cluster are very concentrated in Europe. Special emphasis is placed in North Italy/West France, South Germany and East England/ Wales. It is striking that the three stars clusters are located in geographically important places such as airports, but big companies like Airbus in Toulouse or supplier companies like SGL Carbon in Greater Munich have enough potential to form a cluster.
