The car ownership rate was increasing in most of the Swiss municipalities during 2000-2010 (BFS 2000 & 2010). When looking at the cantons of Zurich and Aargau, some regional differencies can be seen in the development. The level of motorisation increased in the majority of municipalities in canton Aargau, whereas the agglomerations around Zurich had a decreasing trend, also along the main road networks.
