Ready for another long and interesting day around Shanghai we met early in the morning in the lobby and boarded the bus for heading to the first company visit of the day. After driving out of Shanghai for quite a while we arrived at the VW factory where we had the chance to have a look at one of the company’s high-quality production plants producing the brands VW and Skoda for the Chinese market. We had a quick instruction by a video-tap followed by a ride through the production and they showed us two of the three main production areas. It was fascinating to see all the robots working on the cars and especially the pure form of just-in-time production was impressive. Unfortunately it was kind of a standardised visit and it was not possible to ask detailed questions about VW in China.
Friday 16th July 2010, the business trip continued in Hong Kong with several surprises. The weather so far has been really great but the Organisation Committee was anxious about a possible Typhoon in the area of Hong Kong for the last day of the trip. This day probably was the non-business highlight of the trip. We started off early in the morning and after half an hour bus ride, we boarded a cruise boat on the Li River. Because of misunderstandings, we were forced to take seats on one of the lower decks. However, during the four hours cruise, we were free to go wherever we liked to really be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery and outstanding landscape. On Saturday, 3rd July, after a short night of extensive karaoke singing we met at 7:45 am in the lobby. Scheduled departure was 8:00 am to avoid traffic. On the bus we received a brief introduction about the city of Handan by Mr. Wang, our translator. Continue reading
