Study Trip Australia Day 4

Exploring the Complexities of Mining: A Day at Bulga Mine – February 8th. Today, our journey began amidst the serene landscapes of Rydes Resort in Hunter Valley, leading us straight into the heart of Glencore’s Bulga Mine. Our experiences throughout the day sparked a range of emotions, as we grappled with the company’s reputation amidst allegations of corruption, environmental contamination, bribery, and price manipulation. However, our perspectives evolved as we delved deeper into the intricacies of their operations, witnessing firsthand the dedication to their work and the initiatives aimed at community development, including scholarships and impactful programs.

After gaining a comprehensive understanding of Glencore’s business operations, we proceeded to tour the Bulga mine, where we were able to see the coal mining activities firsthand. Following a successful day at the mine, we continued our exploration of the Hunter Valley by visiting the Ben Ean Winery & Vineyard. There, we indulged in a tasting of seven Australian-made wines, treating our taste buds to a delightful experience. To conclude our memorable Hunter Valley excursion, we savored a lunch at the Baumé Restaurant, enjoying a variety of salads, pastas, and pizzas.

We then made our way back into our bus, which drove us back to the Pullman Hyde Hotel in central Sydney.
