Our study trip to Japan kicked off with an exciting first day that took us from Hiratsuka to Tokyo, giving us the opportunity to explore Swiss-Japanese business connections up close. The day began early as we boarded a private bus for a two-hour journey to Hiratsuka, where we visited the Sika Group, a global leader in specialty chemicals and adhesives based in Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Upon arrival at Sika\u2019s Japanese facility, we were welcomed with warm hospitality, a hallmark of Japanese culture, and given an introduction to the company\u2019s work in Japan. First, different department managers shared insights into Sika\u2019s operations, including the company\u2019s strategic acquisitions and how it has successfully integrated these businesses over the years. In addition, two of our own students had the opportunity to present a brief overview of our university\u2019s study program, giving our hosts a deeper understanding of the Swiss education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the lunch break where we were offered various small bites, we were able to chat with Sika employees, exchanging thoughts and ideas in a relaxed setting. After lunch, we were given a comprehensive tour of their production plants and laboratory, where we gained fascinating insights into the adhesive systems Sika produces and the advanced processes involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, we made our way to the Swiss Embassy in Tokyo, where we were warmly welcomed by David Braun, the Deputy Head of Mission. Gregor Muischneek, Head of the Economic and Financial Section, gave an informative presentation on the 160-year-long diplomatic relationship between Japan and Switzerland, with 2024 marking this special anniversary. Further, we learned about upcoming events aimed at strengthening these ties, including the Osaka Expo, which will run from April to October 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most exciting developments introduced during the presentation was the newly formed Swiss Business Hub for Japan. This initiative, backed by the Swiss government, aims to support small- and medium-sized companies from Switzerland and Liechtenstein in expanding their business in Japan while also providing Japanese companies with information on Switzerland as a business hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the day ended with an ap\u00e9ro at the Swiss Embassy, where we had the opportunity to network with representatives from the embassy and gain valuable insights into the diplomatic perspective of Swiss-Japanese relations. The evening provided a unique chance to connect with professionals and deepen our understanding of the business landscape in Japan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
