After some complications at the Zurich airport, where both Matthias (Schütz and Litzke) from our group had to stay on ground, we left for Frankfurt. During our stop in Frankfurt, we saw the famous US Rapper “The Game”. After a long flight we arrived safely at Bangalore airport. Most of us experienced a cultural shock – cows were walking on the highway, crazy taxi drivers drove on the road and a chaotic traffic were some of the main reasons. Welcome to India!
Later in the residence we found out that the intercultural communication had some minor lacks. Our group was located in three hotels, where each of them received different sized rooms. Some of us had to sleep in the same room with locals. The reason was that room sharing is for Indian commo n and the trip management hasn’t expressed it exactly, that we only want to share rooms among Swiss students. After complaining at the reception we achieved the reallocation into other rooms without unknown companions. At the end everything worked out well – typical Indian manner.
At 7 o’clock we met at the ‘Barbeque Nation’ restaurant, where all of us ate Indian food with a western Barbeque touch. After the lovely dinner with dancing servants, we decided to get some sleep to be ready for the next day morning.
The official study trip ended on the 6th February with the journey back from Beijing over Frankfurt to Winterthur. The voyage back was unproblematic and the group arrived safe & sound but exhausted in Winterthur. I wish all those who extend their Asia trip individually e.g. to Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Thailand or Vietnam a safe and inspiring continuation!
With the end of the study trip, we have now time to reflect on all the impressions and insights we got during the past two weeks and I’m looking forward to further discussions. (Sebastian Scheidegger, Sandro Meier, Stephan Bodenmann)
We all gathered on Saturday morning (yes, it seems long foregone!) in front of the Winterthurer Theater. Everyone was on time and you could see the excitement in everyone’s eyes. The trip started with a slight delay but the weather was on our side – which is crucial in this case- and we made it to Frankfurt on time. After a last meal on European grounds, we boarded our flight CA936 to Shanghai at 19:20. We (Stefi, Laura, Aniela) made sure all our crew was on board and comfortable. We were able to enjoy two stupendous Chinese meals on board, a usual chicken-or-beef dinner and a special breakfast consisting of beef-noodles, quite a new gourmet experience for many of us. The eleven hours went by peacuflly for most. Once in Shanghai we were warmly greeted by our Chinese tourguides, Yuan and Gong. Continue reading →
