Botanical Garden
On 24 June 2023, we arrived in Singapore and began our official programme with a visit to the Botanic Gardens. The Botanic Garden is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and showcases the best and most spectacular tropical flora in a stunning green landscape. We hopped on the metro and got off at the north-east entrance to the park. As we walked through the beautiful park, we were greeted by beautiful nature and even spotted some wild chickens, large lizards and giant grasshoppers. The best part of our visit was the orchid garden with over 1,000 species. Here we saw Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim. We were blown away by the incredible array of colourful flowers. Have a look at the pictures below to see for yourself! At the end of our tour, we saw the Swiss granite fountain, which was given to Singapore by Swiss expatriates to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Switzerland.
Newton Food Centre
In the evening, we visited the Newton Food Centre, a popular place to try some of Singapore’s delicious food. The Newton Food Centre is a hawker centre where a variety of famous local or ethnic dishes are offered at affordable prices. Sitting with the locals, eating the food they eat, in the friendly and noisy atmosphere of the hawker centre is a truly memorable experience.
