Singapore Bike Tour
On June 30th, our journey started at 8 a.m.
The day greeted us with a lot of rain. Optimal weather for a bike tour, right? Well, anyway, we walked to the organizer of the bike tour. There, we were equipped with a bicycle, water, and a poncho. We were glad for the poncho because it rained very heavy in the following four hours. Nevertheless, we had a nice tour and saw various historical sites in Singapore. From Arab Street to Little India, we saw quite a lot.
Singapore is shaped by various cultures that have settled here in recent decades. Every ethnicity or religion is welcome in Singapore. Singapore considers every person, regardless of their origin, as equal. We found this very fascinating and a beautiful principle of the state. During our bike tour, we had to stop several times either because of the rain or to try local specialties. First, we had a locally prepared coffee called Kopi. What’s so special about it? This coffee is made from Robusta beans, which are coated with sugar to caramelize them. Conclusion: very sweet but tasty. Additionally, everyone had the pleasure of trying Kaya Toast. It is a traditional breakfast dish. The toast consists of two slices of toast and a sweet coconut jam. The coconut jam is made from coconut milk, eggs, sugar, and pandan leaves. Very special and surprisingly delicious. After our bike tour, we needed something for our stomachs.
Botanical Garden
Our next stop was the Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden in Singapore, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a diverse plant life on 72 hectares. Highlights include the National Orchid Garden with over 1,000 orchid species. Ideal for families and nature lovers, the garden is open daily from 5 a.m. to midnight. Admission is free, only the Orchid Garden charges a small fee. A must-see in Singapore!
Dinner at Gardens by the Bay
Lastly, we enjoyed a cozy dinner together. We had a lot to talk about, and thus the first day came to an end. We had learned a lot of interesting facts about the city and are looking forward to learning more about this fascinating city through the company visits in the coming days.
