In the framework of the METPEX project the connection between such land use types and mobility patterns are analyzed. The figure below shows the modal split in the nine Swiss municipality types. The use of motorized private vehicles is lower in centres and touristic municipalities (mainly located in mountain regions). While the higher use of public transport and active modes seems to be the reason in centres, public transport is very low (and active modes prominent) in touristic municipalities. On the other hand, peri-urban, rural and agrarian municipalities register the highest use of individual motorised vehicles.

Schlagwörter: Mobility patterns, Switzerland

The Swiss Federal Statistical Office (BFS) classifies the municipalities in nine types: centres, suburban, high-income, peri-urban, touristic, industrial, rural, agrarian mix and agrarian municipalities according to employment, population density, income, tourism, population structure and centrality criteria.
