The challenge regarding the electricity grid is finding a way to combine individual technologies into an efficient overall system, which is interoperable, safe and reliable. Technological issues in electricity grids and systems are the focus of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfe.admin.ch\/bfe\/en\/home\/research-and-cleantech\/research-programmes\/grids.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SFOE grids research programme<\/a>; interfaces to other energy carriers are also considered.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 2020, the Research Program Grids is looking for about 6 to 8 transformative application oriented research projects (<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/participants\/data\/ref\/h2020\/other\/wp\/2016_2017\/annexes\/h2020-wp1617-annex-g-trl_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TRL<\/a> 2\u20135). They should explore industrially relevant ideas with a high potential for significant scientific and technical impacts in the medium and long term. A significant step beyond the state-of-the-art is a pre-requisite.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfe.admin.ch\/bfe\/en\/home\/forschung-und-cleantech\/forschungsprogramme\/netze.exturl.html\/aHR0cHM6Ly9wdWJkYi5iZmUuYWRtaW4uY2gvZW4vcHVibGljYX\/Rpb24vZG93bmxvYWQvOTk2Mw==.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">call<\/a> is addressed to universities (including ETH-domain), universities of applied science, further research organizations and the private sector in Switzerland. The participation of young scientists in the research teams is encouraged. Researchers in the public and private sector can apply for remu-neration of the personnel costs according to the maximum rates provided in the Appendix.
